- What is SketchMason?
- SketchMason, or Mason for short, is an AI design tool that turns a hand-drawn interface sketch into a finished UI design. You draw a rough frame on a canvas, describe what belongs inside it, and SketchMason generates the screen, built on a design system so the next screen matches it.
- How does the sketch become a design?
- You block out a screen with rectangles on an infinite canvas and label them. A labelled rectangle is an instruction, so the labels are what the layout is generated from. SketchMason builds the screen against a design system, and the finished design can be exported as HTML.
- Do I need to draw well?
- No. Boxes are enough. Writing a word or two inside them helps a great deal, though. A labelled rectangle is an instruction, an unlabelled one is a guess.
- Do I need an account to try it?
- Yes, and it is free to start. A new account comes with two generations and asks for no card. Sign-up takes an email address and a password, and everything you draw is kept on the account.
- Where does the design system come from?
- A mood board. SketchMason reads the images for palette and typographic feel, then produces design tokens bound to roles, with contrast checked on the pairings that decide legibility. Every screen generated afterwards is built from the same system, so they match.
- Can I use my own Anthropic API key?
- Yes. A key you paste into the canvas is held in the browser tab only, sent with the generation request, and gone when the tab closes. SketchMason never stores it.
- Does it design for mobile?
- Yes. From a generated screen you can produce a mobile version of it, designed at phone width and placed beside the original on the canvas.
- How long is my work kept?
- For as long as the account exists. Every sketch, style guide, flow and share link is saved to the account, so there is nothing to export and re-import between visits.
- What does it cost?
- Generating costs credits, and one credit is one generation: a style guide, a screen, a page in a generated flow, a mobile version, or a revision from the design chat. Drawing, moving, resizing, references and history cost nothing. An account starts with two credits and no card. After that there are two monthly plans, Starter and Studio, and top-ups in any amount when the month runs short. The figures are on the pricing page.
- What can I export?
- The design exports as a standalone HTML file, a hand-off brief describing it, or a Next.js project starter. Every export is taken from the design as it stands on screen, so edits made after generating are included.
- How many free generations are there?
- An account starts with two. No card needed.
